I love blog hopping, checking out and sharing what everyone’s posting. However, sometimes it such takes a long time and I don’t always have time to do it and then I feel guilty for not commenting or sharing on Twitter. So I’m wondering if there’s a better way to do it?
Maybe I should time myself and do little blog hops for ten minutes, but that feels like short changing my blogging friends.
Then I thought I should make a list of my favourite blogs and visit them first and the others later, but what if there is no time later?
How about I allot different blogs to different days and only look at them then? Hmm sounds far too complicated to me!!
I know what if I do it all alphabetically? Surely that should be simpler?
So what do you do? Is there an art to blog hopping? If there is please let me know!
I wish I knew the answer to that one! 🤔 Since I started uni study I’ve had to cut back on some other things that I like doing. Like you, I love visiting blogs and reading what my friends around the world are getting up to, but there isn’t always enough time. I’ll be keeping an eye on your comments to see if any of your readers have suggestions for you.
Thank you, it’s a bit like blip isn’t it?
Exactly! I thought that as I read your post.
Are you still on there? I don’t post as much as I reading and blogging more.
I still love taking photos, but I haven’t been on blip in a while. I find the daily posting impossible to keep up with. Also, when I go on blip, I don’t have any time for my blog, and like you, I’m always reading, both for enjoyment and study. There aren’t enough hours in the day, so something had to give! Unfortunately it looks like it’s blip.
Sounds like me as well.
I wish I knew. I do share as much as I can but commenting on every blog I visit is just not doable. Also, I don’t always have something to say. So I just comment randomly and hope nobody gets offended 😂
😀 I Iike it!
I get offended!!!!! :p
Great gif post! There’s no rule or rhyme to my routine… I follow almost 500 blogs (I know, I cut 100 mostly inactive accounts or with people who never interact with me but then added new ones again) so I usually scroll in my reader and pick out the books that I’m interested in. I read reviews most of all but a book haul or discussion post is always wonderful to discover too and one of my fav posts to read. I do have my fav bloggers though and I usually go back to the same people because of similar tastes. I also do a scroll through Twitter when I have time but I follow most via WP.
Thanks I enjoyed choosing the gifs. 😀 I think only follow just over 200 blogs but feel bad about cutting back, but if they don’t interact it makes perfect sense.
I wish I knew. Alas, I suck at blog hopping and like with my blogging I just wing it.😂 Oh, by the way, congrats on a discussion post.👍
Cheers! This was definitely winged. I thought about making it funny but gave up and kept it short instead. 😂
If anyone comes up with something let me know too! I try to cram as much sharing as I can whenever I have a free bit of time. Other than that just winging it as usual 😂 x
It’s good to know we’re all in the same boat so we can all just wing it! 😂 x
Love this post and wish there was a straight forward answer. I wish I had more time to comment on the posts that I read but as I usually read bloggers posts and share when I get it from work I haven’t always got the time to comment or get to all the posts I want to read. That’s why I like your Sunday post gives me a chance to catch up on reviews I’ve missed. (I’m commenting today as I’ve got the week off 😂)
Thanks I’ve been thinking about it for ages and I’m glad I finally plucked up the courage to ask. It seems we all struggle to find the time, so that makes me feel much better. Hope you enjoy your week off. xx
It’s hard sometimes Nicki. There’s only so much time in the day and even though I’ve retired I still have a busy life plus need reading time with piles on my TBR mountain 📚📚📚
It can be interesting reading all the reviews of others and I often find books I really want to read that way, which is good but fatal!
I’ve been in Twitter jail a few times for over sharing, so try to mix it up with RT’s and shares. Usually I limit it to those bloggers whose posts I regularly share otherwise it starts to feel overwhelming. With new bloggers coming along though, I try to share some of their posts so that they’ll have more followers and attention because I remember starting out and other book bloggers were so good to me plus I’ve become Twitter pals with some lovely new ones who are a bit more sociable than others. They put the social into social media and I like a bit of banter.
Having said that though, I’d hate for my Twitter feed to be just full of shared posts.
I’m glad you’ve brought this up. I had a similar discussion once when I asked about RT’ing or sharing and it was mentioned that to share meant that the blog I was sharing would have more visitors to their blogs as it would show my visit and if others shared it would increase visitor stats rather than just RT. Dunno 🤷♀️
I don’t know if there’s a happy medium, so will read the rest of the comments.
I’m do glad I’m not alone. I might do another post about sharing on social media and whether bloggers prefer likes shares or comments? It’s a minefield 🤣🤣🤣
I sort my feed on Bloglovin, and the alternate between most recent and oldest posts and try to do at least five of each a day.

Thanks that’s very interesting! 😀
I’ve taken to sitting down for an hour or so at night while I halfheartedly watch something on TV and do a bit of blog hopping. It’s a difficult balance to get right thou!
Good way to do to do it, thanks!
I definitely don’t have any good strategies, and I want to stay out of Twitter jail. 😂 It’s tough to find the time and the balance, but I look forward to the time I spend blog hopping, and as long as I feel that way, I’ll keep going. ♥️
I really like your way of looking at 😊
I try to share as much as I can but sometimes it’s so overwhelming I simply give up. My strategy is to share the WordPress notifications throughout the day as I get emails for them (if I use reader I never check). This tends to be just before or after I’ve been in the gym in the morning and again at lunchtime. I go to a Facebook blogger site and share as many as I can from there in the evening after dinner.
Aha I do it all from the reader as I hate getting notifications on my phone 🤣
It is really hard! I’ve been trying to participate more in this way, liking and commenting on posts, but there are a lot of them and only so many hours in the day. I always feel good when someone comments or likes MY posts, and want to give the same to other bloggers as well. Mostly, since my blog is on WordPress, I try to just read through the ones I follow there on the Reader page, which keeps them in chronological order, but I know I miss some.
I use the reader too, makes it much easier.
Good question! I’ve been reading through the answers in the hopes of finding a perfect solution, but no luck so far 😂 I try to squeeze in some bloghopping at lunch, or at night while watching TV but I’m sure I regularly miss interesting posts. Having the WP reader helps! And I get WP notifications for the bloggers I defo don’t want to miss… Guess who’s on that list??? 😉
Aww that’s nice thanks 😚 It’s so good to know that we’re all in the same boat, nobody really knows how to do it. 😂
So comforting!
If you find the magic formula then I can’t wait to hear it! Maybe if we stopped reading books we’d have more time to visit all the wonderful blogs about books haha!!
Yes but then they’re wouldn’t be any books to add to our tbr mountains, actually that’s not a bad idea! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m a genius haha!!
What an interesting discussion post! I’ve often wondered what other bloggers do and reading through the comments above now I know!
I generally tend to do most of my blog hopping in the morning as I’m sat with my coffee and having breakfast. I browse through the WP feed and there are some bloggers who I recognise more than others simply because I’ve interacted with them more and they seem to post in the morning like I do, so I always check out their posts.
It can become really overwhelming though with the amount of great reviews and bloggers out there and I always feel guilty if I’m really busy one day and don’t get round to sharing as many posts as I usually would.
Same here, so it’s very good to know we all struggle.
It’s so hard to find the time isn’t it? I love looking through people’s blogs, I have a list of about 20 in my favourites bar that I try to stay up to date with, then I use the WP reader to check out stuff from people I don’t regularly interact with. I find it hard not to just flick through Twitter and follow whatever links catch my eye then think “that’s my blog hopping done” because you miss so much.
That’s it I miss lots and keep finding new blogs through Twitter
Me too, then I feel so guilty for not staying up to date. The struggle is real!
I wish there was a good answer out there because I would love to hear it. I am terrible at it, when I have time I can do it but end up getting sucked into it for hours and then when I’m working I am so knackered that I usually can’t find the mental power to do any, so if you find a way for a happy medium then let me know ☺️
I’m loving all these answers but I think we’re all in the same boat and just doing when we’ve got time.
Yeah it always makes me feel a bit better when I realise that everyone has the same problems with it ☺️
I love this post! There aren’t enough hours in the day! I try and allot an hour to going through my reader and reading posts…..doesn’t always work out that way though!!!
Thanks! There’s definitely not enough hours in the day to do it and everyone seems to agree which is brilliant.
😁
Blissfully blog hopping right now! I use bloglovin where I have a folder for favorites, and another of other book blogs. I set aside some time every week to look through those folders, starting with my favorites of course! No quota of blogs to look at, no quota of comments to write, otherwise it feels forced and overwhelming. Good luck!
Sounds like a good idea, thanks!
I wish I had an answer to your question. I visit when I can but not always time to comment which is a waste as I love comments on my blogs! Since retiring I have far less time in my life than when I went to work, I am sure the hours are getting shorter!!! 😉 Keep well and have a good week Diane
It seems like most people don’t have an answer, so I’m glad I’m not alone. Have a lovely week ☺
It’s so difficult, isn’t it? There are so many demands on our time, and only so many hours in the day! I love visiting other blogs, seeing what people are reading, reviewing, and getting plenty of suggestions to add to the TBR. If I stumble across the best way of doing this, I’ll let you know, but I just try to visit as many as I can in the time available.
Oh please do let me know if the answer! ☺
Such a dilemma… the more blogs you follow, the less time there is to read them and interact! I have a quick scroll through my WP reader most evenings, I will only click on the posts that absolutely catch my interest because I have limited time. It doesn’t seem too friendly but I have other stuff to do 😦
I try my best to catch up on the feed every day though or there will be too many even to scroll through!
I have to admit I’ve taken the easy way out and ceased to feel guilty about it – I only have a limited amount of time for visiting blogs so I tend to go to those who have put an interesting comment on my blog (not a generic one, I’m too seasoned to be fooled by those) and then anything that catches my eye… I do try to mix the latter up and so if I only visit one day a week that is better than no visits? I do a more comprehensive visit at the weekend which is why I love your links post so much Nicki 😉
That’s a really great way to blog hop! Thanks for sharing 👍
When you learn the secret to it, please let me know. 😊
If I do I certainly will!
I wish I knew the answer to this one as well! I never have enough time to visit all blogs, especially since I’ve been restricting my social media/blogging time the last few months to avoid a slump. I tend to at least visit those blogs that have left comments on my posts, and I have a couple of favorite blogs I always try to visit (guess who’s on that list? 😉 ) I try to use the WP reader as well, but I wouldn’t mind some advice on how to properly blog hop either.
You mean you don’t know what the secret is? 😀 I guess we’re all trying to work out, which is good and takes loads of pressure off.
I’m guessing nobody truly knows what the secret behind blog hopping is other than inventing a time machine or superspeed reading and typing. 😉
Hehe it’s so tricky! I feel so guilty if I miss a day then I’m constantly having to play catch up. 😅 I tend to read and share the posts where the book has captured my attention. It whittles it down slightly but not by much!
The guilt is so real 😀 I tend to read reviews that catch my eye too but the guilt of leaving some out 😂😂😂
Such a brilliant discussion post! I usually check blogs from bloggers I interact the most with (you’re in!) and bloggers who have left comments on one of my posts. Those are the ones who gets the most comments. Then I use Twitter and the WP reader to find posts, but I can’t comment on everything so I share and try to sow comments when I have something to say. It’s so difficult and I feel guilty!!!
Thanks that’s a great way of doing it. I mostly just use the reader and occasionally hop onto other blogs through Twitter.
Good questions! I always do it a bit randomly and then wonder if there’s a way to be more efficient.
Thanks I think everyone does it a bit haphazardly too!
*sigh* I was hoping to find a solution. I got behind about two weeks ago and have not recovered.
Great discussion, Nicki!
Thanks! It’s really comforting to know we’re all in the same boat 😂
I love this post because I feel bad especially when my posts get shared and I don’t always have the chance to go back and share. I try to share in the morning if I have time and then I go back to whose shared my post and try to share theirs. But I keep mixing it up. With comments I tend to comment where I can. But I want to say something because it’s worth saying not because I feel like I should …. not sure if it makes sense but when you find the answer do share!! Lol x
Thanks it makes perfect! x
I follow A LOT of blogs and there is no way that I can get to all of them every day. While I was restricted on computer time, I couldn’t even get to all of them in a week. I read all of my blogs through the bloglovin’ platform and have them divided into groups by day of the week. I start off with the blogs designated for that day and work backwards if I’m able to get to more. It’s not a perfect system, but it helps me to try to get to everyone at least once a week.
I don’t subscribe to many blogs. I start with those, reading them from the reader in the order they posted. I mark the ones I’ve read with the star so if I don’t have time to read them all I can start where I left off the next time around. If I have extra time I search random words and hop over to some blogs I don’t yet follow. That’s how I found yours. I searched keyword, ‘blog’, and yours popped up. Voila!
Thanks for popping over. 😊 I do a similar thing with the stars, it really does help! 😀
I always use the “check out my favorite bloggers” method. Reading blogs in general is a bit time consuming for me anyways. I can’t think of nanny easier ways to offer. 😅
I don’t think anyone has worked out too many easy ways 😂
