Standalone Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Megan@bookslayerreads. Standalone Sunday was created to let others know about all the standalone books you have loved, but maybe don’t get the attention they need. Megan created the banner as well and anyone joining in can use it too. Why not check out her blog too
This week I’ve chosen Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed
“At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed.
Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — and she would do it alone.
Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humour, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.”
This was a library loan from back in 2013 that I absolutely loved and wouldn’t mind listening to again. I enjoyed hearing all the stories about the author’s past life, her mistakes, her grief about her mother dying and her divorce. I also loved the hiking descriptions and the people she met on the way, and was sad when she came to the end of the trail itself. The narrator on this audio CD was excellent all the way through too which helped tremendously in my listening experience.
I’ve actually been eyeing this book for years now but haven’t read it yet! I’ll have to bump it up on the TBR since you recommend it! Thanks, Nicki!

I have been kicking myself since I watched this movie… I very rarely will watch a movie without reading the book first, (its like a rule!) But I broke my rule, and the movie was great so now I just wanna cry that I didn’t read the book first. 😦

My best friend read this and really enjoyed it. She focuses on nonfiction sports genres when it comes to reading, and this was a real highlight for her.

How interesting! Has she read More Than Rivals by Ken Abraham another audiobook that I loved?
