I do not. I tried. Multiple times. It’s not for me. I often find I need to go back because I apparently spaced out along the way and don’t have a clue what’s going on. Although I do make an exception when the narrator is Richard Armitage 😏.

Fair enough! My husband and son won’t even try them, although they have heard excerpts when I’ve been listening.

I’m the same as Eva. I have tried but they are just too slow for me 🙈 I now listen to podcasts instead!

Fair enough at least you tried! 😂

I did. Prob 3 books but then my enthusiasm just faded. You are brilliant with them. They obviously really work for you x

Audio format is not my fav. It’s more difficult for me to focus…..my mind wanders or I if I close my eyes to concentrate I fall asleep! Then I have to rewind. Also I can read faster than I can listen. I can’t skim or scan a page. Audio works best for me when I’m driving…I guess because I’m used to listening to the radio. I have found very few narrators that I love. A female voice pretending to be a man is just weird. Print is definitely my preference. Although one audio book I absolutely loved and can’t stop recommending is Project Hail Mary. I can’t imagine reading it in print. So I guess I’m not ruling it out…it’s just a rare occurrence.

I know what you mean about female voices doing male voices. Sometimes it’s not great and vice versa for male voices doing female just cringey. I’m glad you enjoyed Project Hail Mary on audio, I must check that out!

Oh you must Nicki! Soooo memorable! Also you need to read it before the movie comes out!

I listen to more now than I used to, probably because of you encouraging me with all you listen to! They are great to listen to while I’m doing cross stitch! xx

Wow! Your audiobook experience is almost identical to mine, Nicki💜 Back when I was dating my hubby long distance (8 hours round trip), I was renting audiobooks from Cracker Barrel restaurants that carried me through all those trips for 3 years! I’m now mostly listening to books versus reading eBooks.

Fantastic Jo 💜 I bet you listened to loads back then!

Tons! I particularly liked the longer ones. Sometimes I’d arrive home and sit in my car to keep listening😏

Love it when that happens! 💜

Hmmm, so I enjoy audiobooks? YES! As you know Nicki, they are my preferred way to enjoy a book these days. What I think is my brain is no longer as busy as it was when I was working, raising a family etc. I couldn’t concentrate and my mind drifted. Now that I don’t have as much to worry about, (retired, live alone, kids grown etc.) I find it is much easier to concentrate and listen, especially when I am doing those tasks that don’t require attention. I had all those books and records when I was a kid too and never thought about that being my introduction to audiobooks. Great post!

We used to borrow books on CD from the library for car trips! I did have a bit of success listening those.

I’ve tried audiobooks multiple times and while there are some I LOVED, as a whole I prefer reading the stories myself as it’s hard for me to find narrators that work for me. I don’t discard audiobooks altogether, but I tend to enjoy books more when I read them on my kindle/physical copy and I finish them a lot faster too. It’s probably also because I’m terrible at listening to an audiobook and doing other stuff at the same time haha.

Some narrators don’t work for me either so I understand that. xx

I enjoyed a series I listened a couple months ago but I prefer reading and I wasn’t listening as many books so it felt like wasting money.

Fair enough Yesha I totally understand that.

Scribd is brilliant isn’t it. I keep saying I’m going to cancel or pause my subscription to catch up with the books I bought from Audible but haven’t read yet, but there’s always another book on Scribd I just have to listen to 😅

I love listening to audio books. I’ve used audio for years. Tapes/CDs/downloads/apps. Like you i have wonderful memories of listening to a vinyl, the one we had was The Rescuers . They’re great for when I’m doing the gardening or housework.

I love them – I wouldn’t be able to get through a gym session if I didn’t have a good book coming through the headphones. I’ve found some formats don’t work well that way though – those that are very slow paced, internal kind of monologues.
I still prefer the printed work but audio certainly has its advantages

No, I do not listen to audiobooks. My reasons are twofold. The first and most important is that when I am reading for review I like to highlight certain passages to enhance my memory of various parts of the book (name spellings etc.) so that my review will be accurate. If I listened to the book, I could not do this.
The second reason is that I tried to listen to a book I had for review for a long time “The Little Paris Bookshop” by Nina George. The reader totally put me off the book (which I still have not read despite the fact that I got it from NetGalley years ago.) A reader can have SUCH an influence on the reader’s enjoyment of the book. I guess I want to ‘hear’ it in my own mind without the influence of someone else’s voice.
I know that you love audiobooks Nicki, and I’m happy that you derive such pleasure from them. However… at the moment at least, I don’t think they are for me.
