Here are some more mini reviews of audiobooks I’ve listened to recently π

The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie
performed by Emilia Fox
From Goodreads: “Pretty, young Anne came to London looking for adventure. In fact, adventure comes looking for herβand finds her immediately at Hyde Park Corner tube station. Anne is present on the platform when a thin man, reeking of mothballs, loses his balance and is electrocuted on the rails.
The Scotland Yard verdict is accidental death. But Anne is not satisfied. After all, who was the man in the brown suit who examined the body? And why did he race off, leaving a cryptic message behind: “17-122 Kilmorden Castle”?“
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery first published in 1924. It was great fun and I’m sure Agatha Christie enjoyed writing it, as there were a lot of humourous moments throughout. I really liked Anne Bedingfield, the main character and heroine of the story. She was great fun, always on the lookout for adventure and not afraid to get into scrapes. The mystery was excellent with a couple of excellent twists at the end. Emilia Fox’s performance was superb bringing all the characters to life perfectly. Highly recommended on audio.Β

The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie
performed by Richard E. Grant
From Goodreads: βA classic Marple mystery, read by the inimitable Richard E. Grant.
‘Anyone who murdered Colonel Protheroe,’ declared the parson, brandishing a carving knife above a joint of roast beef, ‘would be doing the world at large a service!’
It was a careless remark for a man of the cloth. And one which was to come back and haunt the clergyman just a few hours later. From seven potential murderers, Miss Marple must seek out the suspect who has both motive and opportunity.“
I enjoyed this first Miss Marple mystery although it was slow to get going. In fact I remember watching the TV adaption and thinking it was a very slow and I gave up watching even though it had a good cast. I kept listening to this because I wanted to find out who had murdered the Colonel and why. Of course I was wrong and I enjoyed the clever twist that Miss Marple had worked out. I thoroughly enjoyed Richard E. Grant’s performance he was perfect!Β

The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie
performed by Richard E. Grant
From Goodreads: “The placid village of Lymstock seems the perfect place for Jerry Burton to recuperate from his accident under the care of his sister, Joanna. But soon a series of vicious poison-pen letters destroys the village’s quiet charm, eventually causing one recipient to commit suicide. The vicar, the doctor, the servantsβall are on the verge of accusing one another when help arrives from an unexpected quarter. The vicar’s house guest happens to be none other than Jane Marple.“
This was another good Miss Marple mystery, although I was a bit disappointed that she didn’t turn up for ages. I remember watching the TV version of this one, but couldn’t quite remember who the letter writer was. I enjoyed trying to work it out along with Jerry and his sister Joanna and got a some of it right. Richard E. Grant’s performance was excellent and I look forward to listening to more audiobooks narrated by him.

He is so good! xx
I may give these a try. {reading}
I find that I prefer the Agatha Christie novels that are not Poirot or Marple, such as ‘And Then There Were None’, or ‘The Crooked House’.
I like your style of review, Nicki.
Happy Trails!
