My Review

I really enjoyed this audiobook, in fact it gave me a book hangover!

I enjoyed reading One of Us Is Lying a few years ago, and when I was offered this for a review I was really intrigued as how it would play out. I mean if the main instigator of that hideous app is dead, how was this going to work? Well I needn’t have worried, because the author has come up with a brilliant sequel.

This book is told from the points of view of Maeve, Knox and Phoebe all students at Bayview. I liked all three characters and loved seeing how they developed throughout the story.

The plot revolving around the truth or dare app was very good, and there was a lot of tension about who would be next and whether they should pick a truth or dare or just ignore the whole thing completely! I mean as a teenager what would you choose? :/

As well as the story of the app there were other storylines that  followed Maeve, Knox and Phoebe. I really enjoyed following these teenagers with all their worries about best friends, boys, girls and fashion and the usual family arguments. I must admit I rolled my eyes in true teenage fashion when the girls were constantly worrying about how they looked, or whether the boys liked like them back. As well as these seemingly trivial  situations the story also touched on some very serious issues including consent, teenage drinking, and serious health issues, which the author dealt with sensitively.  It me made me very glad to be an adult in this age of social media and the enormous peer pressure that teens face today. 

As the story unfolded and the tension mounted I got hooked and wanted to know how it was going to end. Would the instigator of the app be stopped or discovered before something tragic happened?

I loved the multiple narration for this audiobook, it worked so well, and I  could gladly listen to these four narrators, Maria Liatis, Holly Linneman, Fred Berman, Karissa Vacker again. They really did bring the characters to life and gave me a brilliant listening experience. I only recognised one narrator, Fred Berman from Daisy Jones & the Six.

I don’t tend to read/listen to YA but I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, and I’m really looking forward to listening to my own copy of the author’s other audiobook Two Can Keep A Secret.

I definitely recommend this audiobook if you enjoy mysteries, thrillers or suspense.
