The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
The question this week is:
What draws you in more: the book’s title, the book’s cover, or the summary on the back cover? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)
Another great question this week! Covers are a huge draw for me, but then so is the summary. In fact I’d say if the cover is gorgeous but I don’t like the synopsis I won’t buy the book, but if I like both then yes I’m having it! Titles don’t draw me at all, unless it’s a subject I’m particularity interested in. I must also mention favourite authors also make me want to buy a book and also narrators for audiobooks.
Good question. Author, cover, my mood, curiosity … all kinds of things!

Good question. I’m drawn to a book by the synopsis, the cover and the opening pages.

Oh yes opening pages can be crucial!

Interesting Carol I never think about themes in a summary. Do you have favourites?

It depends on if it’s non-fiction or fiction. With fiction, it’s usually the cover, then the synopsis. With non-fiction, it’s usually the cover because it has to be a biography or history for me.

Aha so you judge a book by it’s cover!?😂

Initially the author, I will often get the book if it’s an author I have read before and I don’t even bother with the blurb. I am attracted by covers but if the blurb doesn’t grab me the book stays where it is.

Same as me Yvonne sometimes I don’t need to write the blurb if it’s a favourite author!

I’m drawn by the cover initially as well except with nonfiction and then I’m drawn in by the title.

Nonfiction does need a good title doesn’t it!

I think I’m drawn to a book by all three, Nicki!

I wonder if anyone has just one thing that draws them to a book. Like you, I look at it all. ❤️

I guess if money is no object then if you like the cover you can just buy for that reason alone!

If it’s an author I haven’t read before, then it’ll always be the synopsis and the cover that draws me first. If I have read the author before and I like their work, then I’ll immediately buy it.

So covers don’t attract you at all then?

The answer, Nicki, is D: all of the above 😄 For new (to me) authors the cover or the title are usually what makes me read the blurb. If that draws me in further it’s a done deal. Key words like asylum, lies and secrets usually do the trick 😅 The cover is often what makes me decide on which format to get: if I really love the cover I’ll buy a paper copy rather than the ebook or audiobook.

Cover most often, title next, and then maybe the blurb. But most of all it’s the author, either because I’ve read their books before, or I’ve heard about them.

The author is important to me too, and a gorgeous cover!

Blurbs are, I believe more important than the cover art, but I am sure I’ve not looked at blurbs where the cover art has turned me off completely.

Actually, what draws me in are the words on the first page. :)Jen

Ah yes when I usually read the first page when I’m thinking about buying or borrowing a book from the library.
