Hello and welcome to my stop on the audio blog tour for The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Thanks so much to Chloe Rose at Penguin Audio for the invite, and for a digital copy of the audiobook via the titleShare app. Before I share my review, here’s what the book is all about:
About the book: “The first book in the gripping Thursday Murder Club series by TV presenter Richard Osman, read by Lesley Manville. In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved killings. But when a local property developer shows up dead, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ find themselves in the middle of their first live case. The four friends, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron, might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it’s too late?”

My Review
This was such a brilliant audiobook! I loved the residents of Coopers Chase and their Murder Club! They were so on the ball, and definitely didn’t want to just be sitting around in their retirement village all day. They still wanted an adventure, and boy did they get one, and right on their doorstep!
The story was so clever. It had so many twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting and the tying up at the end was so clever! How did Richard Osman do that? I’d really love to know how he plotted it and came up with such a brilliant cast of characters with such wonderful back stories. They all felt so real and I’ve really missed them since finishing the book.
Lesley Manville was superb as the narrator, I loved they way she brought Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim to life. I think my favourite characters she voiced were Joyce and Ron, although Elizabeth and Ibrahim were fab too.
I’d love this to be made into a film or a TV series and can imagine Celia Imrie, Imelda Staunton, Judi Dench, Penelope Wilton, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, basically all the great British actors of a certain age being in it. Or maybe some of the original cast of New Tricks?
I also loved the interview at the end with Marian Keyes and Richard Osman having a really lovely chat about the book, reading, writing and the news that book 2 is on the way!!
I thoroughly recommend this on audio, especially if you enjoy contemporary cosy mysteries! I can’t wait for book 2 which I’ve already added to my audible wish list!
My NG request is still pending 😫
