Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Shannah@BionicBookWorm exploring different topics. If you are interested in participating Shannah would love for you to join in. Here is a list of the Upcoming Topics in June – please remember to ping back a specific post of hers so she gets a notification and will add you to the participants list!
This week’s topic is Sci-fi, a genre I don’t tend to read but which I have amazingly read enough books for this post.

My favourite without a doubt is Station Eleven which I listened to earlier this year and could easily listen to again.
The War of the Worlds is also a favourite because it really surprised me when I read a few years ago, because it wasn’t the boring dry book I was expecting it to be. It probably also helps that I’ve loved the musical version for decades.
Time and Time Again is another book that totally surprised me, as I tried a book by this author before and dnf’d it quite early on because I didn’t like the main character.
Dark Matter was a buddy read with Liz @Cover to Cover and I loved the whole experience. It had me flipping pages trying to work it all out.
Expiration Day was a book I won from the author on Booklikes a number of years ago. I was surprised to win a copy and surprised that I enjoyed it so much as it’s also a YA read.
So which books would be in your Top 5?
Great Top Five! Station Eleven would be one of mine! Dark Matter has been sat on my shelves for too long – I need to read it!
Thanks you definitely to pick up Dark Matter soon!
I don’t think I’ve ever read a science fiction book 😄
Perhaps you should add one to your 20 Books of summer list! 😉
😂. The genre has never really appealed to me. Also, that list already took me way too long to write. It stays as it is 🤣
I hear ya! lol
Station Eleven seems to pop up time and time again. I think I just might have to add it to the old TBR!
Definitely do!
While Dark Matter certainly missed the mark for me, I have to say I am really enjoying Station Eleven. I picked it up on Audible and it is great so far!
So glad you’re enjoying it’s a great story.
I haven’t read much sci-fi, but I have read Dark Matter so at least I’ve read one of your top 5 in the genre, haha. I still need to get myself a copy of Station Eleven, and I’ve seen The War of the Worlds film, does that count? haha
😀 You must get Station eleven it’s soo good. I haven’t watched The War of the Worlds film as it’s not set in England during Victorian times when the book was written.
See there you go, I didn’t even know they changed the setting from Victorian times to modern day, and England to America – I may have to read the book after all!
It’s not long and definitely worth a read.
I’m a huge fan of H. G. Wells and one of his books (albeit not War of the Worlds) made it onto my list as well. If you haven’t read any of his other stuff I really recommend it!
Thanks for the recommendation! 🙂
I think I’m allergic to science fiction books
I used to think that 😀
I second Dark Matter! It is so good! Reading everyone’s lists today really reminds me that I need to read Station Eleven!
Station Eleven is sooo good!
Well I had difficulties to do our Top 5 this week and had the help of my kids LOL
Brilliant 😀
Great post! I really have to read Dark Matter. It seems to be on everyone’s list! I have a copy of War of the Worlds, but like you said, I’m afraid it will be a dry read.
Thanks Definitely give both of them a go you might be surprised.
Wait – there’s a musical version of War of the Worlds?!
Yes it originally released as an LP in the late 70s as Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of War of the World, and has since been re-released as a show touring around the UK.
Well, learned something new! Thanks
Love Station Eleven and read War of the Worlds years back but must have a look at the rest. Thanks very much!
You’re welcome! 😊
