Breathtaking Twist

A Mother’s 32284387Confession by Kelly Rimmer is set in small town Australia, where everyone knows each other’s business. It’s narrated by two characters, recently widowed Olivia, and Ivy her mother-in-law.

Olivia and David were the perfect couple with their whole lives in front of them. When beautiful baby daughter Zoe came along, their world seemed complete.

But now David is dead and Olivia’s world is in pieces. While she is consumed with grief, her mother-in-law Ivy is also mourning the loss of her son. Both women are hiding secrets about the man they loved. Secrets that have put the family in danger.

Something was very wrong in Olivia and David’s marriage. Can Olivia and Ivy break their silence and speak the truth? A mother should protect her child, whatever the cost…shouldn’t she?”

This book hooked me from the start and stirred up so many different emotions in me. The setting and characters felt very real as the book drew me further and further in. I loved Olivia and was rooting for her right from the start, but it was a totally different case with Ivy! Throughout I was muttering and getting so cross with her, that at times my husband had to gently remind me that it was just a book and not real life. I certainly wouldn’t want Ivy as my mother-in–law and I hope I never become like her if my son gets married! See what I mean about real characters?

I don’t normally pay much attention to tag-line lines on books as I’m normally disappointed, but the twist at the end really was breathtaking. I didn’t see it coming at all and was so surprised.

This is my first book by this author but not my last. I’ll will be looking out for her other novels and recommending this to friends and family.

If you like books by Dorothy Koomson who wrote my Best Friend’s Girl and The Woman He Loved Before you will definitely enjoy this too.

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Bookoture and the author for the advanced review copy.
